From Our Pastor
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
My name is Howard Woodruff and, together with my wife Dawn, I am the pastor at Wesley UMC. I am an ordained elder, a second career pastor, and am starting my 25th year in ministry. Previous to becoming a pastor, I was a firefighter/engineer, paramedic, director of Emergency Services, and a hospital administrator. My previous career experience and my ministry experience combine to make me an effective community oriented pastor.
Our family history is a rich and blessed one. Dawn is a Registered Nurse and has served in many varied nursing environments. We are the parents of two children. Our son, Sgt. Hamilton T. Woodruff, served in the United State Marine Corps Special Operations Command until his death in 2011. Our daughter, Hilary, married her best friend John in May of 2013 and in June of 2014 they celebrated the birth of their first daughter, Jenevieve.
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lycoming College with a triple major in Psychology, Religion, and Political Science; a Masters of Divinity degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia; and a Doctoral degree from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. Together, Dawn and I have served congregations in the Williamsport area, the Mansfield community, in State College, and in Scranton.
In addition, I serve as a chaplain for the Pennsylvania State Police and for a few Emergency Medicial Services in the Commonwealth. I serve as a Critical Incident Stress Debriefer for an Emergency Services Task Force in Central Pennsylvania and for the Keystone Crisis Intervention Team. I am also a Master Chaplain Certified in Homeland Security and a certified Life Coach with expertise in Crisis Intervention and Grief Counseling.
